Borehole water can be a cost effect alternative water source for many companies. However, it comes with some issues that can limit its effectiveness as a process fluid.
Many bore hole sources have issues of water quality, contamination can take many forms, but the most common is that of :
- High iron and manganese levels - this can result is high levels of dissolved iron and manganese coming out of solution as it is pumped from underground, the contact with air causes a natural and unstoppable oxidation. This can be assisted and controlled by the injection of various oxidants and the removal of oxidised solids by filtration.
- Sand and other natural solids are often found in borehole water and many processes will require their removal before use.
